Lucas Obregón's Debut in River Plate's First Team

Buenos Aires, November 16 (NA) — Lucas Martín Obregón, a young Argentine footballer from River Plate's youth academy and reserve team, made his official debut in the First Division this Sunday. He came on as a substitute for the injured Fabricio Bustos during the away match against Vélez. According to the Argentine News Agency, the player is considered one of the young promises from River's academy, and he is the 50th to debut under the management of Marcelo Gallardo. Obregón, who arrived at River as a child, started as a right midfielder but solidified his position as a right-back in the youth ranks. The young player had already been demonstrating his potential in the first team and the reserve under the technical direction of Marcelo Escudero. He joined the club in 2013 and has progressed through all the lower divisions. He is currently a standout figure in the reserve team. In July 2023, he signed his first professional contract with River Plate, valid until December 31, 2025. River "protected" him with a buyout clause of 20 million dollars, which demonstrates the club's great projection for him. He has been called up to the Argentina youth national teams (such as the Under-17 and Under-20). An interesting fact: he is the brother of former River footballer, Braian Romero.
